PFMA to take streets on Saturday against tax on wheat bran

LAHORE: The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has announced a countrywide strike from Saturday after as the negotiations with federal government regarding the imposition of 0.6 percent withholding tax and seven percent sales tax on wheat bran concluded pointless.

Talking to the media, representative of PFMA said that all the flour mills will be closed on Friday, while the supply from all 1,350 mills to the market to be suspended from Saturday till the withdrawal of undue taxes.

Chairman PFMA, Mian Anjum Ishaq said that in all over the world no any sales tax is imposed on bran but in Pakistan it was being experienced without considering the difficulties of the businessmen.

He added that burden of taxes would cause the hike in prices of flour ultimately, adding that govt should exempt the flour mills from sales and withholding tax

He urged govt and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for immediate withdrawal of seven percent GST on bran otherwise they would have to increase the price of flour.
