PHC refers Peshawar Rapid Transit project to NAB

PESHAWAR: The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on Thursday was referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

A division bench of the PHC comprising Justice Mussarat Hilali and PHC Chief Justice (CJ) Waqar Ahmed Seth directed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) NAB to investigate alleged irregularities in the project.

Moreover, KP NAB was also directed by the court to investigate the causes of delays in the project’s completion and why had the costs escalated. The project’s deadline had been extended several times.

The first deadline was April 20 which was later extended to May 20 and then June 20. The latest deadline had also been met. Furthermore, the project’s cost was allegedly hiked from Rs49 billion to Rs64 billion.
