Physical, mental health perquisite for nation’s efficiency: LCCI

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has organised a day-long seminar on “The Hidden Enemy” on Friday, in which a large number of people from different walks of life participated.

LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar and renowned Psychiatrist Dr GH Saqib Kalyani spoke on the occasion and marked the importance of physical and mental health. They pledged to make all out sincere, individual and collective efforts for creating awareness among the general public about psychological problems.

The LCCI vice president said that Pakistan is at a cross roads, facing multiple economic, social and political challenges. The only way we can best deal with our challenges is through creating a harmonious and stress-free environment. He said that the more our businessmen, employees and society at large find themselves in a serene and peaceful surrounding, the greater efficiency of our nation would be.

He said that the LCCI objective is to guide, educate and facilitate its members; therefore, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry would continue to arrange such seminar and training session.

Dr Kalyani delivered lectures on psychiatric problems. He said that according to World Health Organization (WHO), globally, more than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. He said that depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide

He said that most people with depression and substance abuse disorders do not seek specialized care, the national experts to identify concrete action steps and deliverables to improve mental health care access and quality in the primary care setting. This is important because mental health is crucial to the overall well-being, functioning, and resilience of individuals, societies and countries recovering from emergencies.
