PIA grounds four aircraft

KARACHI: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily grounded four ATR-42 aircraft to ensure compliance with the latest engine overhaul protocols, its spokesman said.

The spokesman said PIA has been overhauling Pratt and Whitney engines of its ATRs as per the overhaul protocol revision 32. Pratt and Whitney, US aerospace manufacturer recently issued new revisions: 33 and 34.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advised the PIA to comply with the protocols with an immediate effect. “As passenger safety is PIA’s top priority the mentioned aircraft will not be available during the next few days,” the spokesman said. During this period, PIA’s flights to Gilgit, Skardu, Chitral, Sukkur, Moenjodaro, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Nawabshah and Multan are likely to be affected.
