PIA lost luggage worth over Rs20m in five years

ISLAMABAD: The national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), lost luggage worth over Rs20 million in the last five years, an audit report released on Saturday revealed.

The audit report stated that luggage worth over Rs20 million belonging to PIA passengers was lost during the years 2012-2016.

Luggage worth Rs3,975,000 went missing from Multan and Bahawalpur airports during 2012-13, the report added. During 2014-15, luggage worth Rs24,023,000 went missing from Karachi airport, it further said.

As per the audit report, the luggage belonging to passengers kept going missing owing to the negligence of the management. “The management was apprised of the situation in 2017 but no response was received,” it added.

The report further stated that according to the rules and regulations, the duty officer is responsible if luggage goes missing.
