PIA requests Customs to check new special security seals to curb smuggling

KARACHI: The administration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has requested the Customs authorities to check special security seals during surveillance and checking.

According to sources, due to the increased smuggling of drugs and other valuable goods through airlines, the PIA management has developed special security seals to restrict any kind of smuggling.

The special seals have also been made for different parts of the planes which could be opened easily by anyone. Even in the washroom of the planes the hidden openings are sealed with the new security seals, the source informed Customs Today.

On the directives of higher authorities, the Pakistan Customs has already beefed up the surveillance and checking of the passengers on all the airports across the country to prevent and apprehend the culprits involved in the smuggling.

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) security unit, Anti Narcotics Force and Customs officers are also carrying out a joint an unplanned search in the different national as well as international flight to root out the any possibility of the smuggling whereas thoroughly checking is being carried.

During the recent incident of the smuggling huge quantity of heroin and other valuable goods, the kitchen staff as well as cabinet crew has been indicated during the fresh investigations, the source further revealed.

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) security unit, Anti Narcotics Force and Customs officers were used to carried out search of the passengers according to their legal domain but now joint surveillance as well as search of the planes are being carried jointly, the source also informed.

The staff in the plane has been assigned the task to look after the special security seals intact within the planes and in case of broken seal the authorities concern will have to be informed at soon as possible otherwise the staff will be responsible for any mishap, the source added.
