PIA spurns smuggling allegations by Customs

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive on Sunday seized ‘illegal’ mobile phones and UK pounds at Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Sources said that the customs authorities on a tip-off raided PIA flight arrived from London. They said that Customs authorities upon search of the flight recovered 40 mobile phones and 5000 pounds from plane’s captain Amir Hashmi. Customs official were investigating further from the plane’s captain and other officials.

On the other hand, PIA spokesman Mashood Tajwar refused the allegations saying that PIA staff was not involved in the smuggling but the passengers. He said that captain Hashmi has not done anything wrong by bringing pounds in Pakistan.

Customs Deputy Collector Usman Bajwa, however, could not be reached despite several attempts for taking customs view point.
