With the addition of new Multan outlet, the total of PIA training centres across the country has become eight as seven other institutes are already functional at Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Nawabshah, Peshawar, Quetta and Swat. Over 600 students are currently enrolled at these institutes.

Speaking on the occasion, the PIA COO said that with the launching of the training centre, students of this region had got the opportunity to get aircraft maintenance engineer licence in aviation.

He added that the aviation industry witnessed massive expansion during the last one decade due to which it is faced with severe shortage of skilled workforce.

Quoting the statistics released by Boeing company, he said that this region would need 50,000 trained people in the field of aviation in next five to 10 years. He hoped that the graduates of the institute would bring foreign exchange to the country besides adding to the skilled contingent of aviation workers. He disclosed that the PIA had launched efforts to get EASA certificate for its training centres.
