PIAF urgs govt to announce single digit sales tax

LAHORE: The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has urged the government to announce a single digit sales tax for traders.

PIAF Chairman Irfan Iqbal said that high taxes are main reason for tax evasion, corruption and smuggling. He said that 17 percent sales tax is higher than the countries like India, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

He added that tax net can be expanded further through a comprehensive strategy. He said strong taxation system is the backbone of the national economy.

Irfan Iqbal said that government is taking loan from IMF and other insitutions on thier terms and conditons that raising tax burden on business community.

He said that government need to exempt industries from telectricity and gas load sheding.
