Pierre Cardin plans to produce clothes in Russia

MOSCOW: The fashion brand Pierre Cardin has decided to manufacture its clothes in Russia and has started negotiations with a number of Russian factories, the company’s designer Rodrigo Basilicati said in an interview with the RNS.

So far, Russia has been purchasing Pierre Cardin items via German and Italian companies, which have licenses for the local production. Representatives of the company plan to abandon supplies to Russia via other countries and give Russian factories a direct license for manufacturing Pierre Cardin clothes.

“Good for you, good for us — let’s support the Russian industry […] This is the perfect moment for Russians to start producing Pierre Cardin,” Basilicati said.

The company has started talks with a number of Russia’s largest factories, the names of which so far remain unknown.

“We can’t announce the names now because this is all in the stage of negotiations, but several very large factories, for example, which are engaged in the production of outer clothing, sports shoes, have expressed their interest,” the designer said.

If the negotiations are successful, the fashion items will become cheaper for Russian consumers. According to the representative of Pierre Cardin, high prices are primarily connected with high delivery costs and taxes.

The Pierre Cardin fashion house was founded in France in 1950. In the following decades, the house has transformed into a giant empire, with Cardin having licensed various products — from clothes and shoes to furniture and bottled water — to carry his famous initials.
