CALIFORNIA: Although we are still seeing some preliminary specs, the Galaxy E7 is set to be the pioneer in the E-series for Samsung, who had just recently launched their A-series which is about coming out with mid-range smartphones with stylish metal body and really good camera. The E-series is somewhat similar except for the metal frame.
The leak by GFXBench merely confirms the internal of the Galaxy E7, although we have to wait for further announcement by Samsung to get a better idea on what the plan is. As for the Desire 820q, it takes the cue from the popular Desire 820 which has an octa-core processor and other high-end spec and repackaging it with some reduced specs.
Both are targeting the mid-range market, so let’s see which device will come out on top for this round.Let’s start off with the measurement with the Galaxy E7 rumored to have a dimension of 151 x 77 x 7.2 mm (5.94 x 3.03 x 0.28 in) which puts it in the category of the slimmest smartphones around although the weight is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile for the Desire 820q, it has a measurement of 157.7 x 78.7 x 7.7 mm (6.21 x 3.10 x 0.30 in) and weighing in at 155 g (5.47 oz) which is of the slim and lightweight profile for its size. The sleek and contrasting dual tone design makes it more attractive and is a definite head-turner.
Screen-wise, the Galaxy E7 is expected to be equipped with a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels, 5.5 inches or ~267 ppi pixel density which is similar to the A-series with the screen technology that is normally reserved for Samsung’s flagship. As for the Desire 820q, it is also equipped with a 5.5-inch HD LCD capacitive touchscreen delivering 720 x 1280 pixels or ~267 ppi pixel density. Then there’s the HTC Sense UI version 6 to give you one of the best user experience when handling the phablet plus the Gorilla Glass 3 adds some degree of protection against the elements. In terms of colors, the Galaxy E7 is on top but usability and due to the extra protection, the Desire 820q wins here.
Now let’s check out on what’s under the hood for both of them. For the Galaxy E7, it will be powered by the Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset which is paired with a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB RAM. In terms of camera, the Galaxy E7 will be sporting a 12 Megapixel primary camera with 4608 x 2592 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and panorama. Then there’s a 5 Megapixel secondary camera completing the package. Meanwhile on the Desire 820q, the primary camera is a 13 Megapixel shooter with 4160 x 3120 pixels with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, simultaneous HD video and image recording as well as HDR. Then there’s an 8 Megapixel secondary camera for all your selfies needs. So for camera, the Desire 820q is the clear winner here on both the primary and secondary camera.On the software front, the Galaxy E7 is expected to be released with Android KitKat 4.4.4 upgradeable to Lollipop 5.0. As far as the Desire 820q is concerned, it is now running on Android KitKat 4.4.2 but whether it will get the upgrade is still unclear at this moment.Both the Galaxy E7 and the Desire 820q has 16GB of internal storage and both have a microSD slot to support future expansion. The Samsung can expand up to 64GB while the Desire 820q supports up to 128GB, so there’s no clear winner here.Battery-wise, the Galaxy E7 should be equipped with a Li-Ion 2950 mAh battery while Desire 820q is powered by the non-removable Li-Po 2600 mAh battery.
