Players could buy 10 Tokens of World of Warcraft each 30-day according to Blizzard Entertainment limitation

LONDON: Blizzard Entertainment limits the number of WoW Tokens a player can purchase in a 30-day period. Right as the Tokens launched, players could only buy a maximum of 10 per each 30-day period. This included Tokens purchased with gold and Tokens purchased with real money. On the same day that the World of Warcraft Tokens launched, the limit to how many players could buy with gold was “significantly increased,” while the 10 per 30-day limit remained for those Tokens bought with real money. The exact limit on how many Tokens can be purchased with gold is unknown.

This World of Warcraft Tokens allow players to purchase a tradable item worth 30 days of game time. A player wanting to get a little extra gold pays $20 for the tradable Token in the in-game shop. The player then takes and places the Token on the auction house in a special Token-only section. At the time the Token is posted, the player is quoted a price based on the Token’s current worth. When the World of Warcraft Token sells, the player will get the quoted price regardless of immediate market value.

Blizzard set the price of the WoW Token at 30,000 on its release. Player supply and demand made that price rise to a little over 31,000 before plummeting over all day April 8 to its current lowest price of just over 20,000 gold. As of this writing, the World of Warcraft Token is worth about 24,000 gold.

As VentureBeat points out, there were a few too many Tokens for sale without players purchasing them on that first day. The increase to how many players can buy with gold and the waning novelty of earning quick gold the day of the Token’s launch are starting to stabilize the World of Warcraft Token’s cost now. However, it might still take some time to see a truly stable figure, since players come and go quite often when playing an MMO.

World of Warcraft Tokens are currently available in the Americas region for the game’s servers. North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand share a pool of WoW Tokens from which to purchase. A European release is imminent, but there is no firm release date yet.

As the Inquisitr reported, this is a perfect way to play World of Warcraft for free if players have earned some gold during their paid time. Players do not need to have an active subscription at the time of a WoW Token purchase. If a player has some gold saved, he or she can purchase a Token from the log-in screen and the current cost of the Token will be taken evenly from all characters on the selected server.
