ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has chaired an important meeting to review crisis of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and progress on privatisation of the national-flag carrier as flight operations remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day.

The protest and sit-ins of PIA employees could not impact on the determination of the federal government to privatise Pakistan International Airline (PIA). A strategy has been hashed out to spare the air travellers any trouble caused by the ongoing disturbance. The prime minister’s close aides and the ministers were also in the meeting.

Another dozens of flights have been cancelled on Friday, while the national airlines has bore losses worth billions of Rupees in the last three days. Flight operations remained shut in different cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar.

The prime minister reviewed the crisis and discussed options that the government has in the matter. The meeting discussed possibility of returning aircrafts acquired on lease and establishment of a new company by name, Pakistan International Airways.

On the other hand, case against two killings during employees’ protest on February 2 has not been registered yet despite court’s order. Joint Action Committee (JAC) Chairman Sohail Baloch’s statement has been recorded in this regard. However, Sindh Police could not make a decision over registration of case even after six-hour-long discussion.
