PM Imran constitutes body to curb illegal transfer of money

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a high-level meeting on crackdown against smuggling and Hawala Hundi at Prime Minister Office.

The secretary commerce and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) briefed the Prime Minister in detail about the losses incur to national kitty in wake of illegal transfer of money through smuggling and hawala hundi, said a press release issued here.

The meeting decided to stiffen the prevalent laws on crackdown against smuggling and hawala hundi with necessary amendments and formation of effective laws in this regard. A committee headed by Attorney General and comprising representatives of Customs, State Bank, FBR and Federal Investigation Agency was constituted. The committee will present its recommendations to the Prime Minister within next one week.

The Prime Minister also directed the Interior Ministry to present the recommendations of comprehensive mechanism and steps taken at administrative level within one week.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Finance Asad Umar, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi, secretary finance, secretary interior, attorney general, governor State Bank, chairman FBR, DG FIA and others.
