PM Imran forms high-powered body to assist Hafeez Sheikh

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister has constituted a high-powered economic team to assist and support newly appointed adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Hafeez Sheikh in addressing the current economic challenges facing by the country.

As per details, the economic team included PTI stalwart Jahangir Tareen, renowned economist and former finance minister Shoukat Tareen, former State Bank of Pakistan Governor Salim Raza and renowned tax expert Shabbar Zaidi.

Sources told that under the new set up at the finance ministry, the role of existing Economic Advisory Council (EAC) may become limited, as Hafeez Sheikh, during his previous term, had not given due to importance to EAC.

Advisor to Prime Minister has taken the charge of the Finance Ministry and today officials of ministry will brief him about the current economy situation and ongoing discussion with IMF.  Sheikh had served as finance minister from 2010-2013 under the Pakistan People’s Party government.
