According to sources, the post of new chairman will be filled with the official who possesses at least one-year tenure before his retirement for ensuring continuity of the financial policies.

It has also been decided that no outsider will be appointed as FBR chairman as efforts were made earlier to get the new chairman from the DMG. The new chairman will be appointed from within the fold of the tax machinery. Outgoing Chairman Nisar Khan belongs to Customs group, so it is expected that from within the IRS a new chairman will be selected this time.

Sources said that for the new Chairman, FBR, there are few names under consideration. Federal Secretary of Commerce Azmat Ranjha, Member Inland Revenue Operation Dr. Muhammad Irshad, and Special Advisor to Finance Minister Tariq Pasha are considered preferable. Besides these names Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Shaukat Ali is also under consideration.

Sources told Customs Today that Tariq Pasha may be appointed as new Finance Secretary as current Finance Secretary Dr. Waqar is going to retire soon and the government may appoint Tariq Pasha to fill this post. In this situation there will be three strong candidates and one of them may be appointed as chairman, Federal Board of Revenue.
