PM performs groundbreaking of Rs 16b Green Line service in Karachi

KARACHI: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Rs 16,085 million (Rs 16.08 billion) Green Line bus project.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid, provincial ministers and diplomats attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

The prime minister unveiled a plaque to launch the Green Line project that was approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec). The Finance Division has released Rs 7,961 million for the project under special arrangements. The bus service is the first ever rapid transit system that has been initiated by the federal government in Karachi.

Proposed route for Green Line starts from Municipal Park, where a rotary U-turn lane is proposed for buses. The plane alignment extends along M.A Jinnah Road towards northest up to Gurumandir, and after Gurumandir the alignment runs northward along Business Recorder Road, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shahrah-e-Shershah Suri and Shahrah-e-Usman passing by some of the major landmarks such as Numaish, Board Office and Nagan Chowrangi.
