AMMON: Prime Minister, Hani Al-Mulki, on Sunday, received Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Falah Al-Lahibi and an accompanying delegation, visiting Jordan to follow up on meetings of the Jordanian-Iraqi Higher Joint Committee, which were held under the chairmanship of the Prime Ministers of the two countries earlier this year.

During the meeting attended by Minister of Agriculture, Khalid Huneifat, Al-Mulki stressed Jordan’s support to Iraq to preserve its security, stability and efforts in the fight against terrorism.

The prime minister said: “Iraq is a brotherly country and a dear neighbor, and we are keen on close relations for the benefit and interest of the two countries,” pointing out that the common interests ensure the continuity of relations and restore them to their former momentum.

He said Jordan is looking forward to speed up the reopening of the Trebil crossing, which will contribute to enhancing trade exchange and communication between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of speeding up the agreement on lists of Jordanian goods that can be exempted from customs duties when entering Iraq.

Iraqi Minister of Agriculture described as “fruitful” the discussions he held with Minister Huneifat, after which they signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of agriculture and an executive program that includes all details related to the agricultural cooperation between the two countries. He said both ministers agreed on intensifying direct communication between them, noting that today he took a decision to allow importing tomatoes from Jordan.

Al-Lahibi expressed Iraq’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Jordan in the fields of agricultural vaccines, importing phosphate fertilizers from Jordan, research and exchange of expertise between the two countries.
