PM Shehbaz, Chinese group agree to expand economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met a delegation from Chinese garments company Challenge Fashion Private Limited and agreed to deepen economic cooperation and encourage further investment in Pakistan.

The prime minister announced that a business-to-business (B2B) conference will be held in China in the near future to strengthen private-sector partnerships between the two countries.

During the meeting, the prime minister remarked that the friendship between Pakistan and China holds a unique position globally, with both nations standing by each other in every difficulty. He expressed the government’s commitment to elevating this relationship and welcomed the increasing economic ties between the two countries.

PM Shehbaz encouraged Chinese industries to set up manufacturing units in Pakistan and appreciated Challenge Group’s confidence in the Pakistani market. He welcomed the establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by the company and directed the provision of all necessary facilities to support the project.

According to the prime minister, the SEZ will support technology transfer, skill development, and sustainable industrial growth.

The chairman of Challenge Group Private Limited shared that since 2014, the company has invested $17 million in Pakistan, where it is establishing a modern textile industry.

Following the meeting, the prime minister formally inaugurated the Challenge Group Special Economic Zone.
