KARACHI: Prominent businessman and Chairman of Businessmen Group (BGM) Siraj Kassim Teli has demanded of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to directly interact with business and trade community in order to redress their grievances linked with law and order situation of Karachi and other economic issues.

Siraj Kassim Teli made this demand in a crowded press conference held at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday in connection with the 12th My Karachi, Oasis of Harmony (International Exhibition) to be held from April 10 to 12.

Teli further informed that office-bearers of KCCI and BMG wanted to formulate “Economic Charter” in order to boost economy of the country, but the prevailing law and order situation and economic condition did not allow them to carry out their pro-economic activities.

During the press conference, Siraj Kassim Teli further demanded implementation of Trade Organization Ordinance 2007 and eradication of Ordinance-2013 in this regard.

Appraising the details of My Karachi Oasis of Harmony, Teli said, “The main aim of this international event is not only to increase the imports and exports of the country, but also to highlight the soft image of Karachi”.

He further informed that total 263 companies including locals and foreign will participate in the exhibition. “We are striving hard to resolve the issues of business community and working for their welfare”, he maintained.

Answering to a query, Siraj Kassim Teli said KCCI and BMG are not taking part in politics of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) as corruption has penetrated in the federation.

“We will support CEO S M Muneer and President FPCCI Mian Muhammad Idrees in eliminating the corrupt members from the federation”, he maintained.
