ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has warned the authorities concerned that no laxity would be tolerated in the execution of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
The prime minister expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting held here to review the progress made on the projects initiated under the CPEC. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar gave a detailed briefing to Prime Minister on the status of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects at a meeting on CPEC Project Monitoring Arrangements.
The prime minister reviewed all the projects under the umbrella of CPEC including infrastructure and energy projects. Lauding the Pak-China all-weather friendship, the PM said, “China is our trusted friend. CPEC is future of Pakistan and its timely completion is top priority of his government.” He further said that he would personally review the pace and progress of the projects through the core team and directed the concerned authorities to update project benchmarks on monthly as well as quarterly basis that would be monitored by the Prime Minister on weekly basis.
Nawaz said that the projects would lead to generation of employment opportunities across the country and would lead to enhancement in trade and poverty reduction. He was briefed about the completion dates of projects under the CPEC. Bulk of $46 billion investment consists of investment by the private sector. He said that he would personally go for ground breaking ceremony of the Western Corridor of the project soon.
