KARACHI: Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Directorate General of Customs Intelligence has seized huge quantity of liquor in a joint operation.
The operation was conducted in an open sea, PMSA Director General Rear Admiral Ather Mukhtar (SI Military) said. Deputy Director General Commodore Rehan Aziz, Director Customs Intelligence Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui and Additional Director Nadeem Ahsan were also present at the briefing.
According to the PMSA director general there was information that huge quantity of liquor will be smuggled in Pakistan through sea.
PMSA took all possible measures and deployed its ships, Fast Response Boats & Aircraft in Western Maritime Zone for this purpose. After four days and night surveillance, PMSA assets identified and apprehended one such boat loaded with smuggled liquor.
Search of the same resulted in recovery of 13,500 bottles of Whisky and Beer cans, valuing millions of rupees. PMSA DG also said seized smuggled liquor has been handed over to the Customs Intelligence for further procedural formalities.
Director Customs Intelligence admired and appreciated the role and services of PMSA in the anti-smuggling operation and said previously also huge seizure of smuggled diesel and narcotics were made with the assistance of PMSA. Asif Marghoob Siddiqui said case under the provision of the Customs Act, 1969 has been registered and challan is being submitted in the Customs Court after fulfilling the required legal formalities.
