POL import bill declines by 6.35pc to $10.029b in 8 months

ISLAMABAD: The imports of the overall petroleum group decreased by 6.35 percent during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2025-26) as compared to the corresponding months of the last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

The total imports of the petroleum group during July-February (2025-26) stood at $10,029.633 million against the imports of $10,709.961 million during the same months of last year.

Among petroleum commodities, the import of petroleum products declined by 6.23 percent, from $ 3,959.173 million last year to $ 3,712.433 million during the period under review year.

Likewise, the imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) decreased by 26.13 percent from $2,456.205 million last year to $ 1,814.319 million while the import of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) went down by 3.94 per cent in the first eight months and stood at $ 696.516 million as compared to $ 725.078 in the corresponding period in 2024-25.

On the other hand, the import of petroleum crude increased by 6.64 percent from $ 3,569.237 million last year to $ 3,806.138 million.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the petroleum group imports witnessed a decrease of 21.25 percent and declined to $ 982.850 million during the month of February 2026 as compared to imports of $ 1,248.037 million in February 2025.

On a month-on-month basis, the petroleum imports into the country decreased by 7.31 percent during February 2026, as compared to the imports of $ 1,060.331 million in January 2026, according to the data.
