WARSAW: Poland expects Russia to offer “normal market conditions” for the supply of natural gas and non-oil-related prices. This was stated by the deputy director of the state gas company PGNiG, Maciej Wozniak.

We can not make the same mistakes that puts Poland in a very unprofitable situation”, said he. “If the Russian side is able to offer normal market conditions for gas supply, it can take part in the struggle for our market”, added Maciej Wozniak.

The deputy director of PGNiG also explained that the energy company is working actively for the diversification of natural gas supplies. One option is the import of liquefied gas from Africa. Poland consumes 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. About one third of this is from local production, and the rest – from imports, mainly from Gazprom. The long-term contracts for the supply and transit of Russian gas to Poland expire in 2022 and 2019 respectively.  The gas prices for Gazprom is linked to the prices of alternative fuels on world markets.
