WARSAW: Poland shares were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher. At the close in Warsaw, the WIG30 gained 2.25% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the WIG30 were PKP Cargo (WA:PKPP), which rose 7.98% or 4.10 points to trade at 55.50 at the close. Alior Bank SA (WA:ALRR) added 6.62% or 4.12 points to end at 66.39 and OrangePL (WA:OPL) was up 6.33% or 0.33 points to 5.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included LPP SA (WA:LPPP), which lost 1.71% or 90.00 points to trade at 5180.00 in late trade. KGHM Polska Miedz SA (WA:KGH) declined 0.93% or 1.17 points to end at 124.13 and Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (WA:PGN) shed 0.54% or 0.03 points to 5.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 346 to 231 and 164 ended unchanged on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 1.24% or 0.65 to $52.99 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.78% or 0.43 to hit $55.55 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.40% or 4.95 to trade at $1234.55 a troy ounce.
EUR/PLN was up 0.13% to 4.3156, while USD/PLN rose 0.46% to 4.0474.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 100.57.
