WARSAW: Poland’s annual steel consumption will likely increase to 20 million tons by 2020 from 12.2 million in 2014, deputy PM and Economy Minister Janusz Piechocinski told reporters.
“In 2020, if nothing unexpected happens, steel consumption will increase to 20 million tons,” Piechocinski said. “The share of industry in the Polish GDP will increase to 25%.”
Every extra million tons of steel produced translates into two million tons of additional coal demand, the official added. Steel consumption in 2014 had risen by 17% year on year to 12.2 million tons.
