WARSAW: The Law and Justice (PiS) government is working on a “Home+” programme to provide Poles more cheap housing for rent, a move experts say could bring about a revolution on the real estate market. The drive will go hand in hand with a recently-introduced “500+” state benefits programme which gives Polish families payouts of PLN 500 a month for the second child onwards.
Speaking in an interview with the Fakt daily on Thursday, Prime Minister Beata Szydło said the new housing programme is designed “for those who are too wealthy to make use of the public aid, but too poor to buy their own home”.
The prime minister declined to go into detail but said that “every average family which earns an average salary” of around PLN 3,000-4,000 a month, “will be able to afford its own flat”. Szydło added the government would provide land to developers to build affordable flats for rent.
