LONDON: A man and a woman have been arrested as part of a major crackdown on drug smuggling. They were detained in Milton Keynes this morning and are being taken to Belfast for questioning.
Police said the 35-year-old man and 34-year-old woman would be quizzed about alleged drug trafficking and money laundering offences.
Detective Inspector Andy Dunlop, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said: “This investigation has been running for the past two months and we are continuing to ensure that anyone suspected of involvement in alleged drugs trafficking and money laundering is made amenable.
“Detailed investigative work continues into this suspected criminal network.”
The PSNI, National Crime Agency and Italian Carabinieri are involved in the long-running probe into the supply and distribution of cannabis.
To date, 17 people have been arrested and nine have been charged.
