Police arrest couple using apartment as drug lab, RM1.2mil drugs seized

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have arrested a couple and seized RM1.2mil worth of drugs from their rented condominium – believed to be used as a drug processing laboratory in Bayan Lepas.

State deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the couple, aged 31 and 35, were arrested, while their three children, including a toddler and a disabled child, were handed over to their relatives after the raid.

He said preliminary investigation showed that the couple used their rented unit as a drug lab since nine months to a year ago.

“During the raid, we seized more than 3,000 ecstasy pills, ecstasy powder, ketamine, methamphetamine, ganja and caffeine powder and equipment used to process drugs,” he said.

He said the couple has been remanded until June 13 pending investigation and that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
