SON LA : A man was arrested yesterday for trying to smuggle 2,000 pills of synthetic drugs across the Laotian border into Viet Nam, police in the northern Son La Province said.
Mua A Giang, 35, from Moc Chau District’s Pu Nhan Village, used the excuse of taking his wife and the two-month-old baby to a downtown hospital for a health checkup as a cover to transport the drugs and 3.3kg of opium resin.
Giang said he had been hired by a Laotian person to deliver the drugs to an unidentified person in Moc Chau Farm Town.
He was promised that he would be paid VND10 million (US$460) for the successful delivery of the goods.
The case is under further investigation.
