Police on Monday made public two persons arrested in possession of 10 kg gold from Sardibas, Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3, Gorkha on Saturday.
Tsersing Dandup Lama, 58, aka Mutup of Chekampar and Lochan Tenwe, 28 were made public amid a press conference this afternoon.
The market price of the confiscated precious yellow metal is Rs 9.3 million.
According to police, Tsering was arrested with 5.8 kg gold while Lochan was nabbed in possession of 5 kg gold that were smuggled from China.
As per the preliminary investigation, Tsering and Lochan, who had gone to Jong Bazaar of Tibet to purchase daily commodities, met local trader Chyangchin who had offered to pay them Rs 50,000 to smuggle the gold to Kathmandu.
“He saved our mobile number saying that a trader of Kathmandu will call us, but he did not give his number,” Tsering and Lochan told police during the interrogation.
Locals Chekempar go to Tibetan markets to buy daily commodities every day.
Tsering and Lopchan who were arrested during a security check had earlier lured the police saying they will give 5 kg gold for their release. And when the police rejected their offer the arrested duo told the police that they (police) could keep all of the gold and let them go, informed SP Bimal Basnet.
The District Police Office, Gorkha, honoured DSP Tul Bahadur Sen with Rs 21,000 for his honesty towards the work.
