WARSAW: Polish charities have started an annual campaign aimed at encouraging Poles to give them one percent of their annual income tax.
Each year, an increasing number of Poles allocate one percent of their income tax to charitable organizations. Experts forecast that this year the participation rate will continue to rise.
“There is a growing awareness and understanding among tax payers of why, what for, and where. This is not philanthropy, because we give what we would have to give anyhow,” said Michał Grzybowski from the EY company.
Monika Chrzczonowicz from the Klan/Jawor association noted that most of the money goes to large organizations, yet it is crucial to support local charities because “they really reach people.”
