WARSAW: Poland’s copper giant KGHM is mulling a location for its solar cells production plant, which is to create some 200 jobs.
Three special economic zones: Mielecka SSE, Tarnobrzeska SSE and Walbrzyska SSE are competing for the project, the daily Puls Biznesu reports. Walbrzych-based zone in south-western Poland is the nearest location for the copper giant, but according to the daily, the other two zones are also strong candidates as they are located in the east, where the level of public support amounts to 50%.
The firm will cooperate in the project with the German Fraunhofer Institute, Europe’s biggest organization of applied research and its industrial implementations, Roman Walkowiak, a deputy CEO of KGHM’s unit Energetyka said. KGHM would not comment on the cost or timetable of the investment.
