WARSAW: Poland’s energy market regulator has increased gas prices for PGNiG retail clients by 1 percent but cuts in distribution tariffs earlier this year mean households will pay less overall for supplies.
On Wednesday URE said it lifted gas prices for PGNiG household customers by 1 percent which will be binding from April 1 until the end of the year.
In January URE cut the distribution tariff by more than 7 percent.
Since distribution costs account for around 35 percent of the total gas bill “household clients will pay less than they have been paying,” URE said.
PGNiG gas sales rose by 10 percent in 2017 to 26.79 billion cubic metres (bcm). PGNiG imports most of the gas from Russia’s Gazprom but has started projects that will help it cut this reliance.
Last year 70 percent of PGNiG total gas imports were from Russia, compared to 87 percent in 2015. Meanwhile PGNiG started buying gas from Germany and liquefied natural gas from Qatar, Norway and the United States.
