Porsche recalls 1,400 Cayenne S, Panamera S Hybrids models over fire dangers

NEW YORK: Porsche is recalling almost 1,400 model year 2011-2012 Cayenne S Hybrid and Panamera S Hybrid cars that could catch on fire.

The automaker says it’s possible a fuel odor could invade the car because of a gas leak from the fuel injection system. Leaking gas means a possibility of fire. Porsche says it fixed the problem during production in 2012, but the automaker didn’t say why they waited so long to recall the cars that haven’t been fixed.

The recalled Cayenne S Hybrid and Panamera S Hybrid cars were built April 26, 2011, to August 2, 2012. Porsche says it’s unaware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to the defect in the U.S.

Porsche hasn’t said when the recall will begin, but the automaker did say dealers will replace the fuel rails and the corresponding seals with new components. The new components will have optimized geometry/tolerances and improved sealing capabilities.
