HARRISBURG: Port Authority has launched a review of its fare policies, urging riders to make suggestions of ways to simplify them.
The campaign will continue through the summer and lead to recommendations this fall on improvements.
In a statement today, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said the project “will be the first major improvement of our fare system in years.”
A website has been created at simple.portauthority.org where visitors can fill out a survey. The website floats several ideas, including eliminating zones and charging all riders the same fare; discounts for ConnectCard users; payment of fares upon entry at all times and going cashless on the T with a “proof of payment” system that requires riders to purchase their fares before boarding a car.
The survey also will be available at several public events.
An online “community discussion” site will be created and a public hearing will be scheduled later.
“We’ve talked about improving fare products and our fare policy for years but now we’re doing it,” said CEO Ellen McLean. “We want to engage our riders and residents through the summer to gather as much input on this as possible.”
