CAPE BRETON: Canso MP Rodger Cuzner was in the Inverness County town on Wednesday where he announced that Ottawa is contributing more than $600,000 to help the community market itself more efficiently.
The money is coming from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s (ACOA) Innovative Communities Fund and will be used to both advertise Port Hood assets, including the area’s five picturesque beaches, and to assist in the redesign of business facades to make the streetscape more attractive. The projects are in conjunction with Inverness County’s unified tourism brand that markets the area as “Canada’s Musical Coast”, an initiative that ACOA is giving $94,000 to help develop.
Cuzner said the changes contribute to western Cape Breton’s continued growth as popular tourist destination. “These upgrades will highlight the distinct cultural experiences of the surrounding communities, creating lasting memories for visitors to take home with them,” said Cuzner. Port Hood is 50 km north of Port Hawkesbury and about 35 km south of Inverness.
