WASHINGTON: Foreign Trade Zone No. 62 at the Port of Brownsville ranks second in the nation for the value of exports (shipments to foreign countries) during 2015 according to the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZ) Board’s annual report to Congress released Thursday, September 15, 2016. The Port of Brownsville FTZ reported exported goods valued at more than $3.2 billion in 2015. Additionally, FTZ No. 62 increased its national ranking for the value of imports to 21, up from 25 in 2014. The value of imports received totaled more than $3.3 billion.
Texas is the leading state for FTZ activity. The FTZ Board reports there were 186 active FTZs during 2015. The value of shipments into zones totaled nearly $660 billion. The Port of Brownsville is the only deepwater seaport directly on the U.S./Mexico border, and the largest land-owning public port authority in the nation.
