WASHINGTON: Whether you rely on a little science or just a little luck, it’s time to make your guess in the Port of Green Bay’s First Ship Contest. In this annual contest, the Port of Green Bay asks the community to guess the date and time of the first ship’s arrival at the Port. If your guess is closest to the actual date and time of the first ship in the 2017 shipping season, you’ll win bragging rights and a prize package. “This tradition began years ago and continues today because, even with modern technology, no one can predict exactly when that very first ship will arrive,” said Dean Haen, Port and Resource Recovery Director. “Due to weather and other shipping factors, there is no scheduled start date of the shipping season. We like to hold this contest every year and give people a fun way to get involved with the Port.”

The Port is again partnering with the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) for the contest. “After more than 10 years of the First Ship Contest, we know area residents look forward to this, not just because it’s fun, but it also marks the unofficial start of spring in Green Bay,” said Brenda Krainik, Marketing Director for the CVB. “Every year we see a lot of creative answers and creative reasoning for those answers; we’re looking forward to this year’s entries.” To make your guess in the First Ship Contest, visit www.greenbay.com/contests. The person who comes closest to the date and time of the first ship’s arrival will win a prize package from the Port of Green Bay which includes a $25 gift card from Titletown Brewery Company and a print by Sandford Photography.
