SINGAPORE: Port of Singapore increased throughout in January-August 2015 with 0.9% yoy to 390.34 million tonnes. The liquid cargo throughout, including crude oil, reported serious increase of 8.2% yoy to 114.64 million tonnes. The general cargo handled by the Port of Singapore also grew with 3.0% yoy to 245.7 million tonnes, while container traffic decreased with 5.6% yoy to 21.08 million TEU. The decrease in container traffic from East to West reflected the cargo turnover of the port, which continue decreasing trends even in the strong months of the summer. In August 2015 the cargo turnover in the port of Singapore amounted to 48.69 million tons (-2.1% yoy), while container cargo handled dropped with 11.9% yoy to 2.53 million TEU.
Port of Singapore is the fourth largest port in the world, serving about 25 regular lines and daily handles over 150 ships. The total area of the port is 600 hectares, which has 50 container berths and equipped with 172 cranes. The annual throughout of the port is 33.9 million TEU and 580.8 million tonnes.
