Port Qasim Terminal & shipping company waive demurrage and detention charges worth Rs330m

KARACHI: After directions from Sindh High Court (SHC) Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) and shipping company waived demurrage charges worth Rs330 million.

Sources said that an importer of scrape imported 18 containers of iron scrap in February 2017. Customs department detained the said consignment and forwarded a contravention report to Collectorate of Customs Adjudication.

The importer through his lawyer of Expert Law Associate Ryan Zia submitted strong arguments before the Customs Adjudication referring various customs laws.

After hearing the arguments, Collectorate of Customs Adjudication ordered to release the detained consignment of the above mentioned importer.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs department also filed an appeal in Customs Appellate Tribunal but the same was rejected. Now Sindh High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan also delivered their judgement in favour of importer.
