ORANGEBURG: The head of the South Carolina Ports Authority is discussing the impact of the state’s ports in the Midlands. Ports President and CEO Jim Newsome is scheduled to speak Tuesday at an economic summit in Orangeburg.
Orangeburg County Development Commission Executive Director Gregg Robinson tells The Times and Democrat (http://bit.ly/2bglJze ) that the session deals with the role the state’s ports play in the county’s economy. He says the deepening of the Charleston Harbor presents an opportunity for the county because Orangeburg has buildings and available land for businesses that use the port.
