WASHINGTON: Following extensive trials of various systems Ports of Jersey in the Channel Islands has extended its survey capability with acquisition of an R2Sonic Sonic 2024 multibeam system and associated equipment delivered and installed aboard an existing pilot-survey vessel by Swathe Services of Truro, Cornwall. The multi-role vessel is designed to take into account a large 12-metre tidal range.
The 2024 assembly, a version of which is also in service with the Port of London Authority (PLA), is claimed by its US manufacturer to be the world’s first proven wideband shallow water multibeam sounder. The Jersey system has been provided together with a UHR 700 kHz capability and TruePix imaging facilities. Ancillary equipment comprises a new SBG Systems Apogee-U inertial navigation system with a Hemisphere R330 real-time kinematic (RTK) base station providing optional corrections. Other supporting hardware includes matching Valeport MiniSVS and SWiFT sensors while existing user Hypack software has been extended to include an integral Hysweep module for calibration, collection and processing of all data.
