WASHINGTON: The ports of Valencia and Tianjin have begun the process of creating a cooperation agreement on commercial, industrial, cultural, maritime and environmental safety between the two ports. Tianjin has an annual throughput of over 14m teu and the port of Valencia has an annual throughput of close to 5m teu, both ports placed in the top 30 of CM’s top container ports for this year.
Tianjin acts as a natural gateway for goods to the country’s capital, Beijing, while Valencia is the largest container port in the Mediterranean, catering to the Spanish capital Madrid. Zang Xianfu, president of the CPPCC commission in Tianjin, stated that Tianjin’s access to logistics facilities in northern China would offer opportunities to Spanish businesses related to the aerospace industry, biopharmaceuticals and the high added value in technological components. The port of Valencia has ten regular lines with China’s main ports including Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Qingdao, Tianjin, Xiamen, Chiwan and Hong Kong.
