LISBON: According to details released by the State Secretary’s office, this duly provides funding to the 11 entities running protection and support services for victims of either domestic violence or the trafficking of humans with the “government renewing the support made available to entities for the strengthening of the prevention and combating of domestic violence.”
The statement added that this was specifically being undertaken through “the protection of victims and fostering their social integration and the creation of new means of support for the victims of trafficking.”
The protocol signing enables “entities that have demonstrated that they have already spent previously attributed funding” to step up their emergency provision of housing for victims of domestic violence and their dependents, improving the living conditions in such shelter housing as well as support for those attempting to move on from such accommodation.
The government source said that this funding comes in addition to €500,000 awarded in 2015 for preventing and supporting victims of domestic violence provided off the back of national lottery revenues and which has amounted to over €4 million in the last four years.
