Post Clearance Audit Lahore recovers Rs 24m during 2Q

LAHORE: Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA), Lahore, has recovered an amount of Rs 24 million during second quarter (October-December 2015-16) whereas contravention cases worth Rs 88 million have been framed during the said quarter.

According to details, PCA, Lahore under the supervision of Ahmad Rauf, Director initiated audit of import clearance data of various Telco’s for the year 2014.  During scrutiny, it was revealed that the companies misclassified imported items i.e. sub-racks/racks/boards (other steel cabinet) under PCT heading 8517.7000 as parts of the telephone and telecommunication apparatus and paid custom duty @ 10% whereas the afore said goods were appropriately classifiable under PCT heading 9403.2000 (other metal furniture) attracting custom duty @25% plus Regulatory duty @ 5%.

Officials sources said that as a result of this exercise, an amount of Rs 76.480/- has been detected due to misclassification of their consignments. Due to concerted efforts of detecting officers and officials Ms Saima Shahzad (Additional Director), Ali Irtafa Osmani (Superintendent) Imran (Appraiser), Superintendent Rauf Qureshi, IRAO Arshad Malik and Atique Ur Rehman, escaped revenue to the extent of Rs 16.620 million has been recovered by the said companies.

Other important assignments which are being conducted by the Post Clearance Audit, Lahore are audit of DTRE users, manufacturing bonds, audit of imports under SRO 1125, audit of smuggled vehicles cleared under Amnesty Scheme, 2013. The Directorate of PCA Lahore has detected evasion of duties and taxes to the tune of Rs. 382 Million on account of DTRE audit, inadmissible benefit of concessionary SROS, misclassification of import goods during second quarter of 2016.
