LAHORE: With the aim to create awareness among the general public about nutritional value of eggs, the poultry industry is celebrating World Egg Day by organising seminars at different places on Friday.
The day is marked every year on the second Friday of October across the world. Rai Mansab Ali Kharl, while addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club, said that the first World Egg Day was celebrated in 1996 and since then we have seen a variety of wonderful events taking place internationally, with people enjoying and celebrating the wonderful versatility of the egg.
Kharl said that eggs have a vital role to play in feeding people around the world, in both developed and developing countries. He said that the poultry sector is one of the most organised branches of the agro-based sector of Pakistan.
“We are producing 10,000 million eggs a year as per capita consumption in our country is 65-70 eggs annually. Whereas as per standard requirement, 300 eggs are required to be consumed by each person. Therefore we are already consuming less protein as per required standards,” he added.
