Power tariff likely go up by Rs1.47 per unit

ISLAMABAD: The government is likely to increase the price of electricity up to Rs1.47, which will put an additional burden on already suffering people.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted an application under monthly fuel adjustment in July. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the application on September 1.

According to the CPPA, a total of 15.21 billion units of electricity was generated in July. Hydel generation was recorded at 29.94 percent of the total generation. Power generation from coal-fired power plants was 15.29 percent, whereas generation from expensive furnace oil was recorded at 10.28 percent.

According to the CPPA, 8.68 per cent electricity was generated from domestic gas and 20.01 per cent from imported LNG in July, while 10.59 per cent electricity was generated from nuclear sources.

The reference fuel cost for July was fixed at Rs 5.27 per unit. In July, the cost of power generation was Rs 6.74 per unit.
