ATHENS: The governing board of Public Power Corporation (PPC) on Wednesday approved the company’s plan to give consistent domestic consumers a 15 percent discount as of July 1 that will be deducted from their electricity bills. The same discount will also be granted to low- and medium-voltage professional consumers.

All customers in the two above categories will be eligible for the discount, PPC chairman and chief executive officer Manolis Panagiotakis told a press conference, provided they pay their bills on time or adhere to their debt repayment plans.

According to data supplied by Panagiotakis, the discount will concern over 5 million consumers who are consistent in paying their bills. However, it will also be open to the approximately 2.1 million consumers who have delayed payments, with Panagiotakis asking them to settle their debts by making use of the favorable program without any down payment, which expires on August 31.

Panagiotakis added that 1.75 billion euros of the unpaid bills concern medium- and low-voltage consumers (domestic and professional), while 380 million euros is owed by high-voltage customers and 260 million euros concerns debts of the state to PPC.
