LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has stepped up efforts to promote a tax culture, expand the tax base and encourage a shift towards a cashless economy, yielding strong revenue growth in Rawalpindi.
PRA Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Khalid Yamin Satti told that a comprehensive strategy centred on digitalisation, monitoring and taxpayer engagement was producing “positive results”.
He said the authority collected more than Rs 12.74 billion in the first 10 months (July–April) of the 2025–26 financial year, marking a significant increase from the same period last year.
Satti attributed the growth to improved oversight, technology-driven processes and closer coordination with taxpayers.
He said the PRA made a record recovery of Rs1.1 billion in a single month by linking bank accounts of a private housing society and real estHOate developer, describing it as one of the largest recoveries in the authority’s history.
“Indiscriminate action against tax defaulters will continue. No one will be allowed to harm the national exchequer,” he added.
The commissioner said the authority was also running an awareness campaign to promote voluntary tax compliance, targeting traders, service providers and the general public. The initiative aims to highlight the importance of taxes, legal obligations and available facilitation measures.
On the transition to a cashless economy, Satti said the PRA was encouraging digital payments through point-of-sale (POS) systems, online tax filing and banking channels to ensure transparency in transactions.
He said such measures help curb tax evasion while strengthening documentation of the economy.
The PRA is also using data analytics and intelligence-based operations to broaden the tax net, which is expected to further boost revenue collection in the coming months, he added.
